As a note, a lot of algebra tutorials prefer to simplify expressions to avoid negative exponents, resulting in things like this \[ z = \frac{x^3}{y^2} \] But in calculus, it’s usually best to simplify expressions to avoid division, which often results in negative exponents. So for calculus problems, it’s often better to use this form: \[ z = x^3 y^{-2} \]
